As a lawyer, as in life, David’s goal is to leave people better off than he first found them. Providing options and assessing the strengths and weaknesses of each option is vitally important. Here, that means that David carefully reviews divorce process options with potential clients. Through consultation with David, you will develop confidence in your decision to have a Collaborative Divorce, a cooperative divorce, a mediated divorce, or a more traditional divorce. Understanding the choices and which bests suits you will help you achieve a better outcome.

David began practicing law in 2001. He attended his first of many Collaborative Divorce trainings in 2007. He first trained as a mediator in 2006, and has completed many more since. As a presenter, he has educated law students, lawyers and judges on both Collaborative Divorce and mediation. In 2020, David deepened his skills by travelling to San Diego for an advanced family law mediation course and participated in a 10-hour training focused on Online Dispute Resolution (think Zoom). He is ready and set to assist you as a Collaborative Divorce lawyer, mediator, or traditional divorce lawyer.

David has worked with all the other professionals in the Portland Collaborative Divorce group. His awareness for his clients’ needs and his ability to listen and communicate serves his clients well. No matter what process you choose, you need a good attorney to guide you, even if a more limited role is appropriate. Family law matters are amongst the toughest challenges people face, and David meets them head on.

David is originally from Michigan. He traveled west to attend the University of Colorado Boulder where he earned his B.A., and again moved further west when he studied law and received his J.D. from Lewis & Clark in 2001.

His commitment to his practice continues in his commitment to his legal community. He regularly does pro bono work and contributes to organizations that promote access to justice. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Multnomah Bar Association. He is a past president of the Owen M. Panner Inn of Court. And he is a proud member of the Oregon Association of Collaborative Professionals and this, Portland Collaborative Divorce group.
