Since 2001 Dr. Furchner has committed his professional practice to serving families through the dissolution process. He has extensive experience as a mediator, child specialist, and parent coach, and has a long history of successfully guiding families through divorce. He has a special interest in developing parenting plans for families with infants and toddlers, and has well-developed expertise in helping families who have children with special needs. His goal is to help parents keep the focus on the needs of their children at all times while providing a cost effective and efficient alternative to litigation.

In addition to mediation and collaborative services, Dr. Furchner maintains a private psychotherapy practice where he works with a broad variety of clients of all ages and backgrounds. His approach to counseling is cognitive-behavioral and solution focused. Sessions are conversational, pragmatic, and focused primarily on the here-and-now.

Dr. Furchner is a member of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, and currently sits on the State Family Law Advisory Committee for Oregon. Dr. Furchner returned to Portland in 1997 after achieving his Ph.D. in California, and opened his private practice in North East Portland. As a working parent, he strives for balance in his work and home life by finding time to play basketball, rock climb, and play music with friends.
